In a matter of hours, I, Austin (who is really just Katherine writing under an alias used to evade the interest of government agents and Martha Stewart) will be leaving beautiful California to catch a plan to New York City, where I will, over the course of 3 weeks there, visit a chocolate factory in Pennsylvania (no, I won't lick the floors to see if their made of chocolate again, officer, I swear), bask at a beach in Virginia with my relatives from NYC, catch a Broadway show (the Tony-winning Drowsy Chaperone), re-visit Ground Zero, shop for cute Asian girl things in Chinatown (HELLO...

Everything is ending so soon. AP testing was over with just a week ago; Seussical the Musical closed just 2 nights before. Finals, as well as the end of the school year are less than a month away. The end of my sweet sixteen is fast approaching.

The AP English Language test was all right, I thought. Unless the practice tests I took the day before the actual test lied to me, or my intuition is off-kilter, I will get a 4 out of 5. AP US History was all right as well; nothing really surprising or awe-inspiring. The DBQ did surprise me, though. Not the... (more)

The Creative Writing Club's first club activity at Java Town was a complete success. We had about 10 or 12 people (can't remember), but wow…we were loud enough to be 20. The games were hilarious; the coffee was great, the literature excellent, and I was gorgeous as usual (I know you were all waiting for that).

Food Faire was this week! Multi Cultural club went on Tuesday and we were a success (of course). We made a huge profit and as Fund Raiser, I am extremely pleased.

Creative Writing (Wednesday) was also a success. We sold out a total of 96 Krispy Kreme doughnuts and made a modest... (more)

Well, it's been a long time since I've written anything here, so I'm going to take some time to explain what I've done this past semester since I returned from Vietnam and Singapore.

Other than being my usual gorgeous and charismatic self, my biggest accomplishment this year has got to be creating the Creative Writing Club. Although we are small in numbers (we have about 6 to 8 regular members other than the officers), I can honestly say that the only regret I have regarding the club is why didn't I start it sooner?

Despite having to make cold phone calls to complete strangers (I'm... (more)

Within a couple of days, I will be leaving for Singapore and Vietnam. Little does my family know just how much this trip means to me… I don't think of Vietnam as a third-world country; I think of Vietnam as a home that I've only visited in my dreams and heart. Actually going there, being on Vietnamese soil, will complete a part of me.

Open Gym for volleyball has ended, for me at least since I will not be in the country for the next open gyms. I won't even return until the second week (out of 3) of tryouts. But I will try out. My overhand serve has gotten much better, although I still need... (more)

Big news. A couple of months ago, while I was on some kind of printing-spree, I sent out a couple of my short stories to various creative writing contests. I didn't expect to get anything back and I didn't receive anything until yesterday. Yesterday, when I opened my e-mail, I discovered that one of my short stories, something call Open House, had won 1st place in the 2005 Kay Snow Writing Contest.

After doing a little happy (although others have told me it looked more like a 'ow, i just got stung by a jellyfish') dance, I checked how much money I'd won. It must have been around 500 or... (more)

Summer Out

School is out. Summer has moved in. And thus begins Katherine's peaceful, albeit at times boring, vacation. I loved being a sophomore and I will miss it. I still love my high school and I think I'll love being a junior, too.

I do miss being part of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, though. The musical was amazing…we SOLD OUT our last 2 nights. Think about it; in the new theatre that has 350+ seats, we SOLD OUT. The experience was amazing and I miss it so much. : |

Summer reading = bleh. I like reading, but I don't like to write about it. Grapes of Wrath; tt's okay. I can... (more)

Saigon fell on this day thirty years ago. The fall of Saigon has altered the course of many lives, including mine and no matter how much I think about it, I know that it is from that day when so many people died that made it possible for me to live this life. I am one of Vietnam’s lost children and today; I pay tribute to the motherland I have never known and will never forget.

Last night, I was notified that my short story ( "Limitless") has placed in the Olympiad of the Arts competition! As some of you may know, last year, I got just an honorable mention. This year, however, I've placed third!

YAY! :DDD

AND, included in the prize is FIFTY DOLLARS IN PRIZE MONEY!! I know fifty dollars isn't all that much in everyday terms, but this is the first time I've ever won and earned fifty whole dollars. My Dad always said that money was worth much more when one earned it and…well, he's right.
